ABA incorporated collaborative innovation into the programming and design of the Performance Improvement Center and created a space unique to the San Jose Campus. The 4,056 sf space, originally a medical records storage and processing facility, needed to be converted into a space able to support a large number of occupants. This led to necessary upgrades to the mechanical and fire/life safety systems. Continuous open communication between ABA, the Healthcare Provider, user representatives and the core team, utilizing multiple communication mechanisms, enabled ABA to efficiently deliver the space as envisioned by the client.
Leveraging space modeling software, ABA produced several 3-D iterations of the design for the client’s review. These renderings facilitated user visualization and thus, enabled more informed discussion and decision-making around the design options. The hallmark of the space is functionality and flexibility across a wide range of uses. ABA was able to achieve this through the application of ABA’s innovative design process: the Healthcare Provider Improvement Center supports technology-enabled education, both large and small group discussions as well as traditional lectures. Further, the space supports the continuum of trainees, from seasoned executives to front-line managers.
